How to make an Official Information Act (OIA) request

Official information is work-related information held by central and local government agencies, and government ministers. It includes, but is not limited to, written documents (including briefings and reports), correspondence (including emails), video and audio recordings, and data.

Check out our website first for what may already be publicly available under Resources.

Official information requests should include your name and contact details with specific details of the information you want.

Please send your request to:

  • Email: contact@tepunaaonui.govt.nz
  • Postal address: Te Puna Aonui - the Joint Venture for the Elimination of Family Violence and Sexual Violence

SX10088 - Wellington

We will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 20 working days after we receive it. However, for large requests or where consultation is required to reach a decision, we may seek an extension of the timeframe. If so, we will let you know and give you a new due date.

We may also need to seek further information from you if we feel your request is not clear, or if the scope is very broad, we may seek to refine your request.

Where there is a high level of public interest, we may also publish our response to you on our website once it is completed but would not publish your name or contact details.

You can read more about the OIA on the Office of the Ombudsman website at Requests for official information | Ombudsman New Zealand(external link).
